Green grading - critical for quality & now FREE for Cropster users!

Good green coffee is arguably the most critical component of a great cup. The more you know about your green coffee and your cupping results the more confident you can be when purchasing. Understanding the impact of everything from screen size to moisture and the water activity of your green coffee and how to roast accordingly can take time. But, this takes less time to learn when you start to collect the information and that can be done easily. Cropster can do a lot of it for you and now we include it with ALL packages so businesses of every size can gain these benefits!

The first step to improving something is measuring it!

Every time you get a coffee sample, there are key pieces of information you collect; who it came from, where it came from, altitude, cost, etc. Cropster has included this information for a long time (btw soon you’ll be able to collect it simply by scanning a QR-code with your smartphone ;-)). Traders supply it and you record it because it has an impact on your cup and your bottomline.

Putting quality at the core of your business means key information like green grading is now presented everywhere it’s needed. Even at the roast machine!

With green grading in Cropster you can capture everything you need about green coffee samples: all the SCA standard information for classification and grading including screen size, moisture level, density and defects. Plus, we also included water activity which is increasingly recognized as a critical data point for roasters. Why? That’s a great question and one that is answered in great detail in the March/April 2018 edition of Roast Magazine which you can access online here in the article called 'Physical Analysis of Green Coffee - What to Measure, Record, Track … and Why'. We also recommend reading 'The Relationship Between Water Activity and the Maillard Reaction in Roasting' by Chris Kornman in Daily Coffee News where he digs into many of the benefits. You can learn even more about the benefits of incorporating green grading into your key business practices in this article 'THE DATA REVOLUTION How Simple Steps Can Yield Big Results' in the Sept/Oct 2018 issue of Roast.

With our latest release green grading, once a premium feature, is now available for every Cropster user! This means, all Cropster users can now analyze their roasting results all the way back to the green coffee. Plus, all of this information is also available directly in Roasting Intelligence 4 making it easier and faster for your roaster and anybody else in your production to act on.

Cropster is a collaboration between coffee professionals in over 80 countries and software developers who love coffee and everything associated with creating a great cup. We release updates to Cropster throughout the year adding and upgrading new features and functionality. With this release we bring a key feature to all Cropster users that we believe will result in even better coffee for everyone.

Any thoughts on this update or ideas for future features? We’re always happy to hear your feedback.
