Meet the reference - dynamic goal setting has arrived!

Setting roast goals including handling and maintaining them along with a newly introduced ‘dynamic goals’ are a major part of our latest release - along with significant upgrades to profile management, profile consistency and blend handling.

This post is the 2nd of a two part series covering the latest release. If you’re interested in everything new to do with profiles (and you should be ;-)) take a look here. If you’re ready to tackle some goals keep reading!

What are Roast goals?

If you are familiar with Roast Ranger just head down to the next section and dive into dynamic goal setting. All you need to know is that you’ll be hearing the term Roast goals more often and Roast Ranger a bit less.

Roast goals are a way of creating, monitoring and improving a set of roast parameters - they build a framework of targets you want to achieve around your roast profiles. You design these goals and the entire framework to create and improve your business's standards. Once these have been set, you and your roasting team will get a variety of instant, daily and over time reports on how consistent your production is. This helps reduce production cuppings, pinpoints what you should definitely evaluate (if a goal fails), visualize the consistency over time, and improve your team’s roasting skills as you tweak goals based on experience. You can do all this because Cropster monitors your roast consistency, based on your criteria, so you can focus on the coffee.

Dynamic goal setting is here!

Dynamic goal setting is the crown jewel of this release - with this new version of Cropster once you have defined your goals, they can be dynamically applied to any reference curve you select. This is a massive timesaver - no more individually setting each goal. Even better, it means all set goals are always up-to-date! This includes thresholds - if you have a new roast duration you want to meet or you plan to end the roast at a slightly higher or lower temperature these will also be automatically adjusted to compensate - saving time spent on math. Bottom line, roast goals are now much easier to set up, to edit and even automatically update as you change your reference curve.

Check out those range settings! Dynamic goal setting will free up a lot of time previous spent adjusting goals. Keeping goals up to date is now part of the package.

Goals now live on the "Roasting" tab as a dedicated menu item for easy access across the system. The most exciting part of this upgrade is the aforementioned dynamic goals. But there’s lot more in there. The user interface update puts everything you need front and center. The result, Cropster now does all the heavy lifting for you when you are defining a set of goals and specifying a range in respect to a reference roast. It also remains as flexible as ever. One example, to make life even easier for you when setting up global goals - you can even choose to ignore global goals for some profiles. That will be very useful for sample or warm-up profiles.

The goals overview table has been improved with features like selection across multiple pages, direct links to assigned or excluded profiles as well as single deletion feature.

Goal creation and editing

Goal creation and editing has been re-designed to make it smarter when it comes to assigning or excluding profiles and setting up goal boundaries. The new design removes the clutter and focuses purely on the information needed depending on the choices you make during setup. To further streamline the process the new relative/dynamic goals can be configured as a group giving you a complete overview of your relative/dynamic goals.

A clean interface makes creating goals quick, easy and straightforward. You are always presented with the information you need at the time.

Goals within Profiles

Reviewing goals is a key part of profile management. As a result, goals are now integrated directly into the profile overview screen. Just head to the "View & Add Goals" within the profile section.

Goals are now a highlight of the redesigned profile management. This simple overview gives you what you need when reviewing a profile and takes you to the goals module if you need to edit or add something!

When it comes to creating quality and consistency goal setting needs to be quick and easy. Cropster already provides the insights needed to establish your roast goals. These updates mean roasteries now have even more time to focus on production as opposed to spending time measuring it again and again. We hope you enjoy this new update and look forward to hearing your feedback about it. If you’ve started reading about the new goals and are now interested in learning more about the new profile management features take a look here.

Finally, if you’re ready to go and would like to get into the details with the goals setting manual you can find it here (requires a Cropster login).
