Tonny Gitonga joins as East Africa Account Manager

Tonny Gitonga has joined Cropster as East Africa Account Manager! Tonny will work alongside our partners and customers in the East African region with an effort to help Cropster in its mission to deliver better, fairer, and more sustainable coffee for everyone. To learn more about Tonny please read the press release below.

Nairobi, Kenya - Tonny Gitonga is approaching his 10th year in coffee and has a growing reputation with coffee professionals in and around East Africa. Tonny started in coffee as a barista and won the Kenyan Barista Championships in 2018. Since then, he has made an impact as a coffee consultant for many Kenyan producers, roasteries, and cafes.

Tonny’s motivation is clear, he wants to help grow the East African market to its fullest potential. “I realized there is an enormous gap between consumers and producers. I set out to work with producers to train and show them how their coffee tastes using different methods. I also help them understand the quality of their coffee. I’ve seen the power of how coffee can change lives. Just think of me going from a server to Barista champion and now traveling the world. It motivates me to share that experience and motivate others, as well. Also, seeing how other countries appreciate their coffees makes me want to bring that home, as well.”

Times are changing and there are so many young people going back to the farms to help elderly farm workers. There is an understanding that young people need to embrace coffee production so Kenya can have a strong coffee future. For me, Cropster is extra important for this because it’s a technology young people can relate to and it will help improve/scale the production across Kenya.
